Technology

Dr. Andrew Ishak is an Optometrist who has lived on the Chesapeake Bay all of his life. As an Optometrist that spent much of his leisure time on the Bay, he was constantly looking for eye protection that was effective and provided the glare reduction he needed over a wide range of lighting conditions. Unable to find eye protection that met his needs, he decided to experiment with designing his own. Starting with lens technology developed for NASA, by scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Dr Ishak worked with lens and coating manufacturers to develop a ten layer lens that is implemented in the current design.

Bayz Lenses are composed of ten layers, each with a specific function. The polarization incorporates a recently developed technology that bonds much more strongly and reduces peeling and delaminating. Bayz lenses also have a new scientifically advanced Dielectric Silver Mirror to further reduce glare.

This vacuum deposited coating consists of several thin layers which improve scratch resistance and overall durability, while reducing light transmission to 12%.
Lenses are available in both a neutral Grey and Amber.

Bayz sunglasses filter glare from water, sand or snow and actually increase contrast and depth perception. This design incorporates a scientifically advanced Dielectric mirror coating that dramatically reduces glare. This attribute, along with elimination of 100% of harmful UV light distinguishes Bayz sunwear from other non-prescription products.

The EPF rating is a measure of how well the glasses protect your eyes from harmful Ultraviolet rays. Bayz sunwear has been tested and has the highest "Eye Protection Factor" data from the FUBI solar rating system (by Dr. Gary Hall, M.D. Phoenix, AZ).
During the development phase, the glasses underwent a lengthy program of real-life trials. The design was tested by various yachtsmen, law enforcement officers, ship pilots and colleagues. The results were overwhelmingly positive. Examples of some of the comments can be found here

It wasn't until that time that the concept of going into commercial production was seriously considered. The result of that decision was a line of high performance sunglasses that are now available in a variety of styles. Visit our Photo Page for more on the styles now available.

The two images above labeled "Bayz Gray" and "Bayz Amber" were taken through the lens used in the sunwear. The image labeled "Clear" was taken without a sunwear lens.
